Recently Seth decided to take down a wall in our kitchen. I was fully supportive of the idea. In fact, we saw that our neighbor had done this in their house and that’s were we got the idea. So in the last few weeks we went from this:
It definitely brings in more light to the space and I love it.
Our plan is to add some cabinets and countertops to the area creating a fixed mini-island.
We literally notched out the back of the cabinet to fit around the column. The idea is that the countertop will wrap the column, too. And then we’ll add a pendant light hanging over the countertop to add a bit of extra light.
We’ve since added another 12 inch cabinet to make it a bit longer. I wanted more countertop space. Yesterday Seth encased the column with the pipe in drywall. Now we need to get a quote for some new countertops.
Filling in the gap in the floor is our next mental obstacle. I want to add wood planks and stain them as close to the original as possible. Seth wants to cut time. I think that would look silly. We’ll see how this one goes!
